The Rebel Squadrons' Academy (RSA)

  • The RSA will be the first place-to-be for new RS members to get familiar with the RS and have the basic knowledge necessary to participate in the RS activities they are interested in.
  • The RSA will provide post-graduate training to improve the skills of RS members.

Command Staff

For a complete list of all RSA staff members, please see RSA Instructors Roster.

Structure

The RSA is separated into training departements which are supervised by the RSA CS. The RSA CS is led by the RSTO. Training departements will host post-graduate and eventual graduate courses for their field of activity. A TD is supervised by the TD CO/CS. The TD instructors will be in charge of leading and evaluating 'students' in the course/s the instructor will be teaching.

Field of Activity

The basic element in the RSA are courses. The FoA of these courses could be split up into:

  • RS general basic training
  • Game specific training - basic/advanced
  • RS general advanced training
  • RS specific advanced training

Courses

Academy courses are designed to teach you something new, or let you demonstrate your proficiency if you already know the material.
Post-graduate courses are in preparation and RS members will be notified once some courses will be made available.

A list of currently available courses can be found at Academy courses.

Training Departements (TDs)

The name "Training Departement" will be used to indicate that we are talking about the wings of the Academy. It is not expected to have eg. a Flight Training Departement. Instead it will be expected that the future TD COs provide a suggestion on the name of their TD. Please note that the name shouldn't have any form of "academy" in it.

More TDs might be implemented later, but the currently TDs expected to be present once the RSA roster gets set up or ASAP after are(names are worknames):

Beginner's Path TD

The place for new RS members to be. Please see below for more info. In charge of the BP TD will be at least one person of the Academy CS.

Flight Sims TD

This TD is expected to maintain courses for the training of RS pilots. Those flight sim courses will have either the form of evaluating custom training missions runs from students, online tests and/or MP training face-to-face with the instructor.
This TD is hosting the XW/TF training squadron to process new pilots to the PBF.

MP Games TD

This TD will be expected to be split up into the appropriate game genres, once this TD sets up a graduate course handling MP issues similiar to all platforms.
This TD is hosting the under-grade training squadrons for EaW, RC, BF 1+2.

Mission Building TD

The place where future ITOD mission builders will be trained. This TD will be expected to provide the game TDs and their instructors with training missions according to their specifications. Ideally this TD would create these RSA needed missions in cooperation with students.
This TD will have to work with the Fictional TD to ensure created missions are as much as possible in context with the fictional RS background.

Officer Training School (OTS)

  • Graduate course

A course which could be considered as advanced BP, teaching and testing the knowledge on Bylaws, Ops Manual, Executive Offices, ... A point awarding system (like in BP) could be used for this course.

  • Post-graduate courses

Courses to train current and prepare future RS officers with focus on most common command spots in the RS.

Integrated Technologies TD

This TD will be expected to be able to provide RS officers with the skills necessary to at least maintain a website. Futher courses would include website creation/coding, graphics, ...
As an instructor needs to be skilled in his/her field for this TD it is currently not expected that this TD will host many courses. With a given number of instructors and courses in this TD, a split-up into two TDs might be considered.

Fictional TD

This TD will be expected to both introduce RS members to the current fictional RS background and to work out and provide the RSA with a fictional background.

  • Graduate course

A course which would help new members to get an idea of what is going on RS fictionally. Another graduate courses (or probably incl. in the 1st course) would involve supervising and helping new members to write a bio within the fictional RS background.

  • Post-graduate courses

These courses would involve improving the students writing abilities and give him/her a better understanding of the fictional RS background, so that student will be able to write 'offical' narratives. Ideally the writing of the RSA needed narratives would be provided by coop between instructor/s and student/s.
First courses should involve RS fiction. Courses later on for overall SW fiction might be considered as well.

Beginner's Path (BP)

The Beginner's Path serves as first to-do thing in the RS for new members. It gives an idea of the features a RS member can use on RS.org and makes it possible for a new member to earn their 1st promotion quickly.
Once a new member joins the RS s/he will be placed into the BP TD, contacted and supervised by one of the Primary Instructors.

Primary Instructors

Primary instructors will be helping new RS members to achieve the 2LT promotion through the BP. Primary instructors should be dedicated and informed RS members with knowledge of (or will to learn) what is going on in the various RS units, and with ability to respond to emails within 24 hours. Due to the nature of this position, it will be expected that a Primary Instructor marks himself/herself LOA if s/he is going to be offline for more than 48 hours. Futhermore a Primary Instructor will be expected to be as much as possible on IRC and/or Xfire, responding to new members questions and to get a basic idea of that new member.

Fictional Background

The RSA is located on the planet of Tarsonis in the Greeop system. The location should provide a variety of plot lines/background to introduce new members' characters fictionally into the RS.
The Fictional TD will be expected to work out the fictional RSA and its surroundings.

For Reference: Existing Proposals

Proposals to be used in the RSA with slight variations:

The Historical Academy

The RS Academy was a fleet that existed from 1997 to May, 2003. The Academy, not surprisingly, served as the entry point into the RS for many years. All new members entered the Academy as Cadets, were trained in an Undergraduate Wing, and then graduated into the Fleet of their choice as full-fledged members. The Academy was also home to several Graduate instruction wings, which provided more specialized training in such disciplines as custom mission creation.

Former COs include Castor Efrata-Landis (founder), Jake Blues, and Matt "Stallion" Williams (who led it twice, and was the last CO, voting to disband it).

For proposals of 2006 to revive the Academy, see Academy proposal.
