Game information - Screenshots

Jump to navigationJump to search

With screenshots, you can take lots of creative license. You can either come up with ideas on your own, or find other sites with screenshots and follow theirs - it's fine to take a screenshot that looks exactly like theirs if you can do it in your own game, e.g. of the title screen.

See Wikipedia:Screenshot for links to more advanced screenshot programs.

Some ideas for screenshots (apply these to your game):

  • title screen
  • main menu
  • choosing a level
  • demonstration of MP chat
  • large battles
  • close-ups of various things
  • fulfilling an objective
  • any other action screenshot
  • results screen
  • options menu

The non-action screenshots will help people who have never played the game to understand what sort of features the game offers.

Video

An even cooler way to demonstrate a game is by using video. There are various video recording programs that you can use in games, although many of them will slow the game considerably, so you may have to try a few. Licah usually uses HyperCam 2, because it doesn't lag games at all. You can find software using a Google search like video screen recording software.

Video can really take up a lot of memory, but can also be really cool. We do have a lot of space on our server, but check with the IO staff, i.e. Snap or Licah, before wanting to use anything larger than 10 mb. Usually, what gaming sites use is low resolution and quality, which allows you to record longer videos and still see what's going on.

So, try out some video, because many sites don't have it and it would be a pretty unique feature of our site.
