Liberation Fleet was originally known by the name Internet Fleet. As Internet Fleet, it was one of the first three fleets formed within the Rebel Squadrons. It was formed from Internet Wing, which was made up of the original non-AOL based squadrons that were centered around the PC version of X-Wing Flight Simulator.

It was originally commanded by Mykra under the name Internet Fleet. Noble was given command of the fleet after Mykra's retirement. It was renamed Liberation Fleet soon after Noble's appointment.
