Nox Gammon

Biography

Lieutenant Nox Gammon was one of the original recruits of then Besh Squadron, Sentinel Company, under the leadership of Sargent Tychus. Under the suggestion of Commodore Xyla Xuana, Nox's rigid, by the book manner, along with his accuracy as a rifleman were considered high qualities for the then fledgling squadron. His interest shifted from marksmanship to the martial arts as a result of self-discovery. He was promoted to Lieutenant and ran a stint as Commander Officer of Aurek Squadron, Sentinel Company before his demotion to Executive Officer. His death during the Battle of Lithra resulted in a clone version of Nox Gammon to surface.

Early Life

"Let me shoulder mother's wrath, brothers. I'm the eldest, it's for the best. "
Nox Gammon

Nox Gammon was born in Coreliia. He is the first of the trio of Gammon brothers, and strikingly, the smallest as his brothers are both over 6'4" tall and over 300 lbs. His father left the Gammon family once his third son was born, leaving Qiana, a journeywoman smuggler, to support her family. When matters became difficult, she resorted to odd jobs including gambling, prostitution, and her trade, smuggling. Unfortunately, Qiana lacked the skills or the notoriety to smuggle, and as such, her business floundered. This soured her mood, affected her relationship with her children, and earned her an unsavory reputation as a trollup.

Qiana unleashed her frustrations on her children in the form of physical and emotional abuse. In the role of the eldest sibling, Nox directed most of his mother's wrath in his direction, and fell victim to physical and mental abuse. In the interest of being the focal point and the ire of his mother, and in looking for a better way of life, Nox decided to take his talents to the New Republic.

The New Republic

Previous run ins with the Imperial Navy combined with the newfound success of the Rebel Alliance encouraged Nox to enlist in the New Republic. He entered as a rifleman, and made a quick impression on his superiors with his accuracy and precision with his weapon of choice, the E-14 Carbine. From his role as the enforcer of his mother's transport, he also illustrated fair marks for his hand to hand prowess as a pugilist. These high marks, along with his indirect associations in the criminal underworld garnered the interest of Commodore Xyla Xuana. Xuana discovered that several years prior, the Gammon Transport had been raided by a Tatooine pirate group, with one of its members being Lucas Benoit-Stark. Since she had opened a case on Stark, Xuana sought extensive information on Stark's history and personality to further build on her treason case. One debriefed, Gammon operated on several reconnaissance missions including an assault on Soccorro, suspected by Stark himself.

Sentinel Company

"And this tall hunk of metal is Nox, who is currently completely in the dark."
Daniel Cross

Nox Gammon joined Besh Squadron, Sentinel Company at the behest of Commodore Xyla Xuana, and he entered as one of its inaugural members under the leadership of Sargent Tychus. As a rifleman, his no-nonsense approach and stoic, robotic nature differed from his counterparts. His work in initial missions yielded positive results, and he found his niche as a formidable ally. Early success with the squadron led to their advancement. A myriad of deaths placed Nox in a leadership role, first as Executive Officer and then as Commanding Officer. Unfortunately, errors in judgment and consistent mishaps demoted him back to the Executive Officer role.

Death on Lithra

"Thought that bastard would outlive us all..."
Lucrezia Ryger

Nox death seemed imminent based on his fortunes in the heart of Lithra. First, in an invasion on one of Lithra's capital ships, Nox and others battled a genetically enhanced stormtrooper. In the battle, Nox had been stabbed by a chemical agent, which initially boosted his vitality, but injured him significantly after its effects subsided. In a near death state, Fegriss managed to save his life during the heart of battle.

Afterwards, a raid on a Lithra facility turned sour when the entryway had been armed with turbolasers. One of those hit Nox so severely, that his shield device and his armor failed to withstand the power. He fell into unconsciousness, and was yet again saved by Fegriss.

Finally, the culminating battle against MGN Tellison, his robot creature appropriately named Death, and nanomachines that disabled his technology, proved too much for him. In a moment to heal his wounds, the creature knocked him into unconsciousness. Soon after, a few dodges disruptor bolts were avoided with aid of his allies. Finally, with all their energies spent, none could save Nox from a final disruptor shot, which completely disintegrated him, a casualty at the end of Lithra's long and arduous war.

Nox 2.0

The reasons remain unclear, but a clone of Nox Gammon came into the fold sometime after the original's death. He maintained many of the qualities of the original, including many of the emotional idiosyncrasies, as well as much of the fighting prowess and skill set. He also retained most, if not all of Nox's memory up until the time of his death. As a result, the new incarnation has no idea of his original's death, nor his current clone status. It remains unclear as to when or if his clone counterpart will ever know the truth.

Talents and Abilities

Nox Gammon is an above average marksman when it comes blasters, with a specialization in using the E-14 carbine. In basic training, he developed a knack for hitting targets with pinpoint from up to and including 300 meters.

His greatest gift comes from his athleticism durability. Nox served as the enforcer of his mother's freighter. He excelled in brawls and showed an affinity for street fighting and combat weaponry. This translated fairly well in his early stages as a New Republic soldier. This catch the attention of Master Q`Zayn, a martial arts practitioner who served under the ABG. After a few conversations, Q`Zayn offered to train Nox in the area of Martial Arts. He also has shown skills in acrobatics and keeps his body in near peak condition.

Later on, a mission on the war planet of Forro, Nox escaped a grueling battle, to which he retrieved a massive sword from his opponent. He affectionately dubbed it the Wu-Tang Sword and trained to use it in melee combat. A near death experience where he took a sword to the chest at the hands of Tara Lin motivated him to infuse weaponry to his training. After much meditation and training, he learned the art of K'Thri, a weapon based martial arts system.

Currently, Nox takes parts in the underground fighting circuit, where he competes against others for money and prestige.

While not the most savvy, Nox also has shown fair knowledge in illegal activity thanks to his mother's profession.

Personality and Traits

"...this may be your shining hour. The proper trooper is humorless, emotionally unavailable, and follows instructions literally with no improvisation. You'll blend right in."
Sterling Tyler

Nox suffers many unknown psychological disorders. He is emotionally detached, and shows little to no reaction to any stimuli. Because of this, matters that may be taxing to the psyche pose little effect to him. He also tends to lack empathy for his teammates, civilians, and even children. In the battle versus undying behemoths known as shadowbeasts, Nox felt compelled to learn and even mimic their strikes as his teammate, Sterling Tyler, suffered from stomach lacerations from one of their attacks.

Nox is also socially awkward. He lacks the skills to maintain relationships, romantic or not. His closest friends are a demolition droid, a Gand (a species known for emotional detachment) and two medics. While his teammates seem to value him as their peer, that's not to say that they trust his decision making or even his world view.

Weaponry and Gear

Nox carries an array of weaponry including pistols and vibroblades, but he is renown for several specific weapons:

Wu-Tang Sword - Nox earned this weapon from a challenge on Forro, a combative planet filled with warriors and fighters who openly challenge opponents as a way of solving civil disputes. A blow from the wielder of the weapon brought him to appreciate the weapon, and train in melee combat. Later, he adopted his Martial Arts training to better suit his technique with the sword.

E-14 Carbine - The blaster of choice for Nox has been the E-14. A smaller, lighter variant of the E-11, the flexibility of such a lightweight weapon suited his aim and firing of the weapon. The weapon has brought him much success.

Stun Gauntlets - Nox is skilled in many Martial Arts forms including Hijkata, a variant of Martial Arts designed to incapacity and stun, rather than kill. Because of this, the stun gauntlets provide extra pop to his already formidable hand-to-hand combat. Lightweight and easy to use, Nox has developed a sense of comfort with the gauntlets.
