RS Card Game

Jump to navigationJump to search

The RS Card Game is a proposed new game made solely for the Rebel Squadrons. It is still in the planning stages and all information below is subject to change.

The practical planning for the card game is being undertaken by Licah Fox at User:Licah Fox/Card game.

Type of card game

There are three major paths from which we can approach this card game:

  • A CCG (customizable card game) where all members have access to the same card deck, from which they select a smaller "play deck" to play with.
  • A CCG where members collect their own cards--beginners are given a base set of cards, and then must earn them (e.g. through redeeming RS-wide merits, performing tasks, gaining experience by playing the card game, etc.)
  • A fixed-deck card game where all players use the same set of cards (the current format).

Game

  • You will have "encounters" with other RS members--usually requiring victory of some sort using your rank and various items you have collected. If you win, you will receive a promotion or two; if you lose, you might lose a rank or suffer some other punishment.
  • You will find equipment and bonuses, which aid you against encounters and curses.
  • You will acquire positions (only one CO and one XO position allowed per person) that will generally aid you but may force you to give up certain other bonuses or units.
  • You may enlist the help of other players in encounters. For each player who assists you, another one may oppose you. Each person on the side that wins receives a promotion; each on the losing side receives a demotion or other punishment.
  • Certain limits will be assigned according to rank and obtainable cards to prevent inequality of assistance. These may be adjusted as the game progresses and imbalances are discovered.
  • Cards will be assigned advantages and disadvantages such that few cards are entirely better than others; thus the selection of cards and decision of when to assist or oppose will largely comprise the decision-making (i.e. skill) portion of the game.
  • You can have a maximum of five equipped items at one time.
  • Play will proceed by each player drawing one card per turn. If the card is an encounter, the player must "fight" or "run"; if it is a curse, it takes effect immediately; if it is any other type of item card, the player may choose to "equip" the item or discard it. A player may discard any of their equipped items in between any turn.
  • The main draw pile will be face-down; the discard pile will be face-up. The item left on top of the discard pile at the beginning of a turn may be picked up; the player must then draw one face-down card--if it is an encounter or curse, normal play proceeds; if it is an item, the player must place it in the discard pile and the turn is over.
  • Victories in encounters will be determined by points total of each side. The points total includes the numerical value of each player's rank, the level of the RSer "encountered", applicable item bonuses, and a die roll made by each player. Ties will be awarded to the card-drawing side (element of surprise).

This game is inspired by Munchkin (see explanation of rules, or official rules pdf), but is not closely based on it, as careful comparison of the rules will show.
