GDF Ship needed in VSG/RID104 narrative

Hey Dave. ":)

Just letting you know that we're going to need one of the Greeop Defence Force vessels to escort an important supply convoy from RS space to the Subterrel Sector border, where elements of the Subterrel strike force can escort it further into the sector, to the RS staging area.

The ship (maybe one of the Strike Cruisers?) will appear only in the narrative during the 'changing over the guard', and maybe seen entering hyperspace, as it head back to the Greeop Sector.

This won't be until VSG/RID104, which should be a while off yet . . . but when VSG/RID103 is coming to a close (or maybe part-way through?) you might want to start referencing the request for the supplies and the escort around then. So assuming VSG/RID102 is released soon (*LAUGHS HARD AND BITTERLY*), that would mean you'll want to think about including this plot point around the start of March.

Not only will you have to spare the Strike, but you'll probably have to scrounge up some starfighters to go with it. Even Z-95s, or whatever you have left, will be very useful.

This leads me to another thought . . . I'll make another section for it, though, so that you can reply to this here.

How did I miss this? Somehow I didn't catch these notes at all. Sorry about that, Vaughan. We'll be sparing the STRK Apostate I take it, then? Unless somehow the Halberd is constructed by then.. we need to talk with Raven about timeline difficulties and whether it could be ready to go by VSG104. As far as sparing fighters, that would require us having fighters. I was planning to have only a minimum number of fighters available, since the vast bulk would be gone with either PBF or VSG. Perhaps Dave will scrounge up extra for the mission or sacrifice some of the few he has available to himself. --Dave 15:22, 19 January 2007 (EST)

Supply routes to the Core?

This might be a Raven question here, but how are we going about receiving supplies from the New Republic? Our main trade route is the Triton (actually, apparently it's the Trition!) and Rimma Trade Routes, which run through the centre of the Minos Cluster . . . now, assuming we could convince the New Republic to expend the forces necessary to clear that blockage, it seems likely that this would impact directly on the PBF campaign, as they are currently stuck in the contested Minos Cluster region.

So we have a few ways we can address this:

  1. We make it so that we can't receive new supplies --- we either need to trade with the local governments (Tarsonis, various locations in the Osiris Sector and the Cadrel Expanse?) or just go without, forcing us to dip into emergency and backup reserves.
  2. We have the New Republic assist us in breaking through the Minos Cluster, which assists PBF forces in getting out of there (this would strongly impact on the PBF campaign).
  3. Profit.

Anyway, yeah, just some thoughts for you before I go crashing to sleep. :)

Well, this depends on whether we receive supplies at all. Fictionally, as far as I'm concerned, the RS is nearly autonomous from the NR. We are connected financially in the sense that we occasionally send back tax receipts and occasionally receive a part of our budget from the NR, but in my idea the connection is fairly faint. We don't receive the bulk of our ships from the NR and we don't get regularly supplied by them. Now just because this is my impression does not mean that it has to become our canon, but I certainly don't think it's required that we get constantly supplied by the NR. Unlike a typical battle fleet, we actually control planets and even whole systems on our own, so we have our own means of supplying and supporting ourselves. --Dave 15:22, 19 January 2007 (EST)

Except

We just got zomg trounced, so we might be needing New Republic aid. David Vaughan 23:57, 19 January 2007 (EST)

PBF To the rescue!

Just let me know when a scheduled convoy is coming through, I'll do my best to setup a mission before the due date for you to recieve supplies. It's a very simple mission on our part. "Escort a convoy" Simple enough really. :) Just remember the PBF timeline is behind you guys currently, we're going to do a 30 day jump ahead to play catch up, but it's not that hard for me to edit our tour to include you guys in a small way. Joshua Hawkins 01:46, 21 January 2007 (EST)

Actually . . .

In actual fact, because Cable took so long to get the next mission ready (which is better than Anton's efforts, which were completely fruitless), PBF707 will start (and therefore finish) at around the same time as VSG/RID102. So while you do have thirty days to catch up, so does the VSG/RID tour. :) So there's no major disagreements in timeline anymore. Just have to skip forward a fair amount of time (with implied recon and analysis, and maybe, hah! torture of a captured spy >:)). David Vaughan 01:50, 21 January 2007 (EST)

How about this....

Ok, let's do this: this month I'll bring an NR rep into the storyline. He'll visit Greeop in the wake of the devastating Battle of Blerthmore and assess the situation (he can come in via a single shuttle so we shouldn't need a mission to explain how he snuck through Minos). He'll promise a supply convoy and extra capital ships. Then next month, the convoy comes through. However the Thrawn threat has just struck, so the NR is only able to spare supplies, not cap ships. Therefore all that comes through is a bunch of defenseless freighters, and rather than helping the PBF, the PBF has to help them to survive. An escort run for the PBF tour, basically. How does that fit with the timeline, Vaughan? Could we do it? --Dave 23:27, 21 January 2007 (EST)

Is Don, Is Good

Yeah, that works.

The shit doesn't really start hitting the fan on a galactic scale for a while yet. We're currently in late 44:3, and sometime shortly Obroa-skai will be raided for information by Imperial forces, and a nearby New Republic defence force vaporised. But it's not for a while that the New Republic realise how badly they're screwed.

So that works well.

They can promise some smaller ships, like corvettes and gunships. And then we'll see how we go. The supplies can come first, with X-wing escort, but then the escorts have to turn back as they reach the Minos Cluster. David Vaughan 23:32, 21 January 2007 (EST)

so 7.08 is planned?

I take it that 708 will be "Escort the hapless convoy that will save us" ? Hmm.. now all I need is to figure out what the TIE mission be, unless it's the same mission (Since TIE has more ships I can play a little more muhahahaha). Which is good, all I need is how many freighters/transports and some planet ideas... maybe a satalite or probe in the area which lets the Impy's know we're there so they show up a bit after mission starts.. yeah, this can work out nicely. :) I like being evil some days. Joshua Hawkins 07:14, 22 January 2007 (EST)

Or . . .

You could have the TIE mission directly escorting the convoy, while having the X-wing mission sitting back where enemy forces are expected to arrive. Maybe have X-wings hit one part of the Imperial force, while the forces that slip through are taken out by the TIE mission.

The XW mission could have the prominent friendly and enemy starships in the distance (maybe the Prometheus and whatever major enemy warships visible at 100 klicks away), and the TF mission, the one with the convoy proper, could see the XW forces 100 klicks away, just the larger warships.

Just a thought. :P
