Ratings

In overall, a rating would be an overall value of a player's participation/activity and his/her performance. It is up to us how much we want to stress the participation or performance. So eg. a rating could be based 40% on the activity, and 60% on the performance.

  • In my opinion, player ratings should be calculated on a weekly and on a life-time basis.
    • Weekly player ratings for each game - A players rating would range from 00 to 100. The rating would be calculated as a summation of all used rating stats. So, if there were 5 rating stats for a game, each stat would contribute by an avg of 20 to the player rating.
    • Life-time player ratings for each game - I would propose that two life-time ratings would be used:
      • The main (most important) life-time rating would be a summation of all weekly achieved ratings for a certain game.
      • The secondary life-time rating would be an average of all weekly achieved ratings.

The main life-time rating would favor those who are most active. The 2nd life-time rating would favor those who have good performances.

  • Overall rating for all players across all games

I think that would be a good thing. I would suggest to calculate each player's week overall rating as an average of all game ratings for that week. The main overall life-time rating for each player would be calculated as a summation of all weeks' overall ratings. A secondary overall life-time rating would be calculated as an average of the weeks' overall ratings.

  • I would suggest that we consider week and life-time ratings for squadrons as well.

Calculation of week ratings

A rating would be calculated as a summation of all rating stats multiplied by the stats modifier. We need to specify the rating stats we want to use for each game in order to be able to create a rating formula for each game.
We should consider if we want to use a "minimum # of matches to be played for rating" requirement, eg. 2 or 4. Using such a requirement would prevent messing up of the ratings when a good player plays only one match in a week. DaLe 09:18, 27 July 2007 (EDT)

Stats

We are talking about two kinds of stats here (in relation to the ratings proposal above). Stats that will have an impact on the rating and stats that will be there used for the calculation of the rating stats. To explain it in an example: Player Bob wins 5 matches and losses 2 matches. The background stats will be: Wins and Losses. The rating stat will be a win/loss ration, in this case: 2.5 . In other words, the background stats are the stats a player enters when reporting a match, while the rating stats are the stats that are calculated from the background stats.

  • Possible Player Rating stats for week overview (not everything would be possible to use together or for each game)
    • Performance stats
      • Game W/L Rating
      • Player Kills/Deaths Ratio
      • Player W/L Rating (a la BSC)
      • Average points per game
      • Average enemy points per game
      • Others?
    • Participation stats
      • Matches played
      • Unique opponents
      • Others?
    • Skill Rating (or stats modifier)
  • Possible Squadron Rating stats for week overview (calculation will depend on used player ratings)
    • Game W/L Rating
    • Avg. Kills/Deaths Ratio per player
    • Matches played
    • Avg. # of matches per player
    • Unique opponents
    • Average points per player
    • Average enemy points per player
    • Skill Rating (or stats modifier)
    • Others?

Stats Modifier

Licah proposed to use a 'skill rating'. I would suggest to use this issue in form of a stats modifier, which would:

  • multiple all rating stats to calculate the main rating
  • range from a min of 0.6(?) to a max of 1.0.
  • be determined by the ratings the player played against regardless of win/loss (the better the rating of the opponent, the higher the modifier)
