Translations in progress

That's a good question. Dave Latin, at the moment. Technically, I'm using classical forms and conjugations, and you might say that it most closely resembles something like Caesar's Latin - straightforward and simple without rhetorical eloquence. But it's more Anglicized than Caesar's since I'm largely hewing to English word order instead of trying to end each sentence with a verb as a proper Classicist might expect. --Dave 17:13, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

General

As I might get activly involved in translations for one or even two language/s, I'd like to state my point of view on the RS World Project. It seems that we have already translators for at least 4 non-English languages so far, so I think that we should organize things a bit to prevent wasted time and eventual confusions (as most of us won't be able to point out 'mistakes' in translations, simply because we won't understand it).

As I see it, we might start with a structure that would look somehow like this:

Phase One (in progress)
Let everyone in the RS know that this project exists. Those who speak a non-English language would sign up on the list if they would be interested in helping with this project. Those signed up for this project would be called 'RS translaters' (or 'RS interpreters', or something else that would sound better if someone has an idea..). Every translater could have an addement to his/her 'function' to show the certain language, ie. DaLe - RS translater(De,Cz) ).
Also, a list of those who speak a non-English language, but are not interested in activly helping with this project, could be made (-not a must).

Phase Two (in progress)
The main purpose of Phase Two would be to create an overall presentation of the Rebel Squadrons and its activities in a non-English language. The 'RS translater/s' for a certain language would start by translating the "About" page into their certain language. Also the Bylaws, Summary of Fictional Status, Summary of each fleet activities (games) would be translated. On http://world.rebelsquadrons.org/ (or the other link) would be an English version of the mentioned texts and the versions of the translated languages. At that link could be also a list of all 'RS translaters' with the games each of them plays.

Phase Three (to be discussed)
The main purpose of Phase Three would be to create an enviroment, where we would be able to recruit new members that don't speak English well at all, but are interested in gaming activities.
We will be able to recruit new members(non-English) only if their certain language would be "supported" by at least one RS unit. To have a language "supported" in a certain RS unit, a 'RS translater' would have to be a CO/XO in that certain RS unit. New members speaking that certain language would be placed in the squad of the 'RS translater'. The one-time and contineous duties of a CO/XO 'RS translater' for a supported language would be: translations of the Operations Manual, Beginner's path, Join form, Privacy policy, certain medals, that certain RS unit's related issues (how to install, mission briefings, maybe part of website, ...), also duties as helping with questions, arranging matches/real time interpreting, writing NLs in that certain language to keep the members informed on the state of things, being present, and other duties that may occur. Because of the wide range of duties and because of the necessity to have a go-to person (for that certain language) online as often as possible, it is more than advisable that there will more than one 'RS translater' in a RS unit before a language would get "supported" by that RS unit.

New non-English speaking members will be most active on squad level and in eventual MP activities. As the times goes on, it might be possible that a member will improve his/her knowledge of the English language during his/her time in the RS. That would allow that member to take more part in RS activities. To encourage eventual interest of learning English, there could be some "English for foreigners" site with online gramatical tests at world.RS.org.
