IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. IRC is a massive network of text-based chat channels (rooms) and users all across the world. Using an IRC client, users can engage in real-time conversations with multiple people. Each specific IRC channel begins with a # and is dedicated to a different area of interest. IRC is considered another part of the technology of the Internet the same way FTP, Telnet and the Web are.

The Rebel Squadrons was once an AOL-based club, using its chat rooms for meetings and general discussion. As the club continued to grow, and in an effort to reach potential members outside of the AOL service, the primary means of real-time communication was moved to the IRC protocol (which is easily accessible to anyone with a connection to the Internet).

The Rebel Squadrons maintains a number of IRC based chat rooms, including a general chat room for all members, as well as more specialized rooms for many of the various fleets. This list includes rooms called:

Obsolete:

  • #RgF
  • #IBG
  • #RSCD
  • #rsstc
  • #auroraforce

These rooms exist on the Undernet.

A popular IRC program is mIRC.
