Joseph Reynolds is a twenty-three-year-old human pilot assigned to the Strike Cruiser Hopewell after a piloting career best described as an ‘abject failure’. His appearance is described as not unpleasant to look at, and could be construed as ‘ruggedly handsome’ if viewed in bad lighting or while under the influence of mind-altering chemicals. His eyes are blue and can be described as 'not lacking in vitality'. His frame is broad, yet not filled out. Joseph stands at one hundred and eighty-five centimetres tall, however he spends most of his time sitting or lying down.

Childhood

Joseph was born to William and Elisa Reynolds twenty-three years ago. His father was a well-to-do entrepreneur who dealt mostly in shipping and specialised delivery. From the age of six Joseph had proven to be a constant source of frustration and disappointment for his father. Despite a slew of excellent teachers and support from his parents, Joseph did not do well in the world of academia. Most of his peers detested him, and the few acquaintances that didn’t attempt to cause him physical harm referred to him as Jo.

Pilot Training

At sixteen years old his father withdrew Joseph from schooling and attempted as a last resort to bring him into the family business and trained as a specialist delivery pilot. Despite the tutelage of his father’s most qualified and trusted instructor, Joseph did not fare well as a pilot, extended his year-long training period to two and a half years, due to the breaking of thirty-eight bones and an unknown amount of ships. Upon completion of his flight training, which was garnered with no honours and some unhealed scar tissue, Joseph graduated into the company’s pilot corps.

Company Pilot

His first mission was to deliver an important package, a piece of invaluable art that was intended to stand in exhibition at the centre of his father’s new cruise liner. Joseph made record company time by flying his retrofitted snubfighter through a small asteroid field and plotting a time-saving hyperspace course that was more economical than the standard company jump calculations. His father’s air of trepidation, misinterpreted by some as fatherly pride, could be deemed warranted when the resulting freak accident is taken into consideration. It is not understood exactly what occured, but somehow Joseph's snubfighter, rather than following the usual approach and landing procedures instead flew in at high velocity and collided with his father’s starship at a weak spot, killing many and destroying the cruise liner. Joseph, his father, and several of the passengers onboard the cruise liner were later recovered by a rescue shuttle, where his father publicly disavowed and disowned his son. He has since never set eyes upon him again.

Independent Life

Joseph did not fare well by himself. What credits he received from his mother were lost through an unfortunate series of muggings, desperate attempts at gambling and, more substatially, reparations for ships he inadvertently damaged (at various pilot try outs for companies unsuspecting companies). In fact, he was still severely in debt for damaging ships when he decided to join the New Republic Military at the age of twenty-three years. This decision came after Joseph decided that the best course for the galaxy and himself was to move onto a more noble cause, by signing up to the New Republic Military and paying off his debts.

Military Service

Despite the achievement of only twelve successful landings from over three thousand hours of flight experience in various snubfighter craft, Joseph was accepted as a flight cadet in the New Republic Starfighter Corps. After being reviewed by Major Dunstable Joseph was assigned to the training ship Hopewell, Major Dunstable's attempt to ammuse himself at the notion of tormenting the new starfighter training commanding officer, Lieutenant Jarn Faron, with Joseph's attendance.

Joseph excitedly welcomed the news of his induction into the New Republic Starfighter Corps, and the opportunities that he expected awaited him on the Strike Cruiser Hopewell.
