Leader of the Rebel Squadrons or Rebel Squadrons Leader was the highest position within the original Rebel Squadrons in 1994 - 1995 and the reborn Rebel Squadrons in 1995 to Feb 1996, when this position was associated with the rank of Admiral. This position was eliminated in March 1996 by then Vice Admiral Super, who replaced it with the office of Fleet Commander (FC) when he took over as leader of the Rebel Squadrons.

History

Three individuals are known to have been Leader of the Rebel Squadrons. rogueleader, who founded the Rebel Squadrons, was the first person to hold this position, circa 1994 through early 1995. He retired and appointed Byteman58 to this position circa June 1995. Byteman58 subsequently disbanded the club. He then restarted the club in July 1995 and again served as Leader of the Rebel Squadrons. At that time, he associated this position with the rank of Admiral. When ADM Byteman58 retired from the club in December 1995, he appointed then VA MATEO 15 to this position. ADM MATEO 15 held this position until he was removed by a grassroots club-wide referendum in February 1996.

As result of the referendum, VA Super was given control of the Rebel Squadrons. Having never claimed the position of Leader of the Rebel Squadrons for himself, he eliminated it in March 1996. VA Super replaced it with the position of Fleet Commander, which has a better defined role in conjunction with the High Command.

Responsibilities

Leader of the Rebel Squadrons was responsible for the general organization of the club, including delegation of responsibility to squadron leaders. That person wrote, edited, produced the club newsletter. They also called and chaired Command Council meetings to discuss various club matters with the squadron leaders. Decisions of the Leader of the Rebel Squadrons were presumably final and did not require input or approval from the Command Council.
