Order of Battle Draft

New Proposal

Canon Information

Based on information gathered about canon New Republic Defense Fleet battle groups (such as the New Republic Fifth Battle Group) we can infer that each battle group is approximately 100 ships in strength, composed of five task forces of approximately 20 ships each. We also know that a starfighter wing contains 3-4 squadrons of approximately 12 pilots each.

A common carrier group or task force might have the following configuration:

  • One Battlecruiser
  • Two Heavy Crusiers
  • Two Star Crusiers
  • Four Escort Frigates
  • Five Gunships
  • Six Picket Ships
  • Numerous Support Craft

Continuity Issues

Size There are some major concerns in reguards to the overbloating of the RS Fleet. The Rebel Squadrons is approximately one-fourth (1/4) the size of the New Republic Defense Fleet at our current point in the timeline.

Misnomers What we generally refer to as a "fleet" would be a task force or carrier group in proper military terms. As a whole, the Rebel Squadrons would currently be battle group in reference to the New Republic Defense Fleet.

Ideal Configuration A

This requires a lot of downsizing, but is very realistic as an attached task force of the New Republic Defense Fleet. We could probably pull off having more (and from a tactical point of view it might be preferred) picket ships, but not any more of the larger capital ships.

  • Imperial-class Star Destroyer x1
  • Assult Frigate x2
  • MC80 Star Crusiers x2
  • EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate x4
  • DP-20 Corellian Gunship x5
  • CR90 Corvette x4
  • Marauder-class corvette x2
  • Numerous Shuttles and Support Craft

  • Total starfighter compliment: 18 squadrons
  • Total troop compliment: 14,000
  • Total crew: 63,100

Ideal Configuration B

After a through analysis of one possible theory of tactical strategy, it was determine that in order to protect a sector of approximately 50 habitable the following configuration would be the most realistic:

  • MC80 Star Cruiser x2
  • Immobilizer 418 Cruiser x2
  • Escort Carrier x3
  • CR90 Corvette x6
  • Numerous Shuttles and Support Craft

  • Total starfighter compliment: 28 squadrons
  • Total troop compliment: 5,660
  • Total crew: 24,418

Methods of Downsizing

As it is the wish of the Logistics Office to shrink the Order of Battle down to a more realistic size, there are a number of methods being considered for facilitating this:

  • having craft that do not make an appearance for extended periods of time be classed as transfered out of our sector, or decomissioned, or destroyed behind the scenes, or in drydock under repairs or maintenance . . .
  • blowing up a lot during a major Imperial invasion
  • forcing a number of ships into temporary or permanent decomission due to Imperial invasion
  • lack of crew for larger vessels
  • lack of parts to maintain certain ships
  • lack of finance to support some craft

The Imperial invasion

A proposed major Imperial assault on RS territory heralding the beginning of VSF Tour 1 is an idea for facilitating the downsizing of the active list of ships in the Order of Battle in one swift gesture.

Especially if the location hit is a drydock/shipyard/repairyard — a number of warships would be knocked out without even being able to participate in the fight.

Imperial-class Star Destroyers

  • Emancipator — last seen in September, 2002. This ship, as with the Liberator, can be explained as having been transferred back to the New Republic Defence Fleet main, for its scheduled demise in the Dark Empire series in the EU.
  • Liberator — last seen in January, 2005. This ship, as with the Emancipator, can be explained as having been transferred back to the New Republic Defence Fleet main, for its scheduled demise in the Dark Empire series in the EU.
  • Wyvern — last seen in October, 2004. This ship has not seen action for a while, and may be requiring maintenance, including a number of parts that are not readily available due to the Imperial affiliation of Kuat Drive Yards. Stationed at drydocks, receiving parts from the scavengered Imperial ISD Menace, captured by IBG forces in IBG509. Stationed at the drydocks during the major Imperial assault. Bombed whilst under repairs; destroyed while not even able to fight back.
  • "Dashan" — last seen in August, 2002. This ship cannot be the Dashan, as its backstory established in its only campaign appearance conflicts with the official AF backstory of the Dashan. This ship can be retconned to Redemption Fleet's newest flagship. After being captured by IBG forces and participating in IBG Tour 1, the ship eventually became the RF's flagship.
  • Menace — only seen in November, 2005. This Imperial ISD was captured by IBG forces in IBG509, and not seen afterwards. Therefore it can be said that the ship was relocated to an RS shipyards and dismantled to provide spare parts for the three other Imperial-class Star Destroyers that the RS operates (the Prometheus, Redemption, and especially the currently-under-repairs Wyvern).

Mon Calamari Star Cruisers

  • Aeneas — last seen in August, 1998. After renaming the ship, make it a New Republic vessel. It was merely stationed in the Minos Cluster temporarily to loan assistance.
  • Engel — decomissioned in February, 2002. This ship was already decomissioned. Problem solved.
  • Peacemaker — decomissioned in October, 2003. This ship was already decomissioned. Problem solved.
  • Suprema Lex — no attested appearances. "The Suprema Lex is the flagship of Serpent Task Force and the home of the wing to be announced that will house the current RS effort for the game Battlefront." The ship appears to have an empty unit on it, so we suggest removing this craft. A way to do this would be to have the crew of the vessel force the ship to flee during the major Imperial invasion. The rationale being that the crew is inexperienced since the ship has not seen much in the way of combat ever. The ship may be brought back in the future, but for now we suggest that it deserts the battle and vanish for a time.
  • Odin — last seen in August, 2002. Academy flagship. This is an easy solution: have the vessel decomissioned at the same time as the Academy fleet was decomissioned.
  • Valour — last seen in September, 2004. Permission has been granted to off this ship somehow. Maybe it could have been retired from combat service after Valour Wing was retired. May have been then scrapped for spare parts to service our remaining Calamari Cruisers.
  • Stingray — last seen in May, 2005. This ship will be lost in the upcoming shipyard siege.

Overview

So somehow, the Imperial interdiction force is disrupted (i.e. Interdictor is blown up) by a force of 2 CRSs, 1 VSD, 1 ESC, 1 DREAD, 2 CRLs, 4 STRKCs, 1 M/FRG, 2 FRGs, and a M/CRV . . . then once the IBG task force continue on through to Blerthmore where many of them die, the remaining RS forces wipe out the rest of the interdiction force: 1 CRS, 1 DREAD, 2 STRKC, 2 FRG, 1 M/CRV . . .

With only 1 STRKC being lost by the RS forces.

Then, of the forces defending Blerthmore (including forces already present, plus those reinforcing them), the major Imperial attack force is defeated by a force of . . . 1 ISD, 1 CRS, 1 VSD, 1 ESC, 2 CRLs, 2 STRKCs, 2 A/FRGs, 1 M/FRG, 1 FRG, 1 CRV, and 2 GSPs . . . (plus maybe some of the disabled ships that might come to life, maybe?)

With RS losses being: 1 CRS, 1 ESC, 2 CRLs, 2 STRKCs, 1 M/FRG . . . plus ships stationed in the drydocks: 1 ISD, 2 CRSs, 2 FRGs, and 1 CRV, while somehow not managing to destroy 2 CRVs and 2 GSPs that might perhaps come operational?
