Republic Shield vessel. Originally the Imperial Star Destroyer Kingpin, captured by Republic Shield forces.

    History

After participating in an undercover reconnaissance operation that was exposed, the vessel underwent repairs and was renamed the Overseer. Arrived at the newly secured New Republic platform Katana during an Imperial assault on the base led by the Strike Cruiser Scorpio and backed up by the Frigate Pisces. Rallied Republic Shield defence forces and inflicted enough damage upon the Zodiac ships to force them to retreat. A final wave of attack forces led by the escort transport Glutton arrived to continue the attack, but realising the tide of the battle had turned, promptly led a successful withdrawal from the area. Shortly after the area was secured by Republic Shield forces and the platform spared from destruction, apparently-New Republic forces returned to the area to report the task force led by the Sulu called away from defence of the Katana platform was caught in an ambush. Republic Shield forces then rallied to reinforce the New Republic task force. (RgF404)

Led Republic Shield forces from platform Katana to reinforce a New Republic task force led by the Strike Cruiser Sulu which had been drawn into an Imperial trap laid by elements of the Zodiac Battle Fleet led by the Calamari Cruiser Sagittarius. The New Republic task force was in tatters by the time the vessel arrived to lend assistance, with the Strike Cruiser Sulu and its accompanying frigates and Strike Cruiser all having suffered critical damage to their shield systems. Republic Shield forces moved to intercept boarding parties which were angling in toward several of the New Republic ships. Imperial forces successfully disabled the Frigates Corinne, Eidolon, and the Strike Cruiser Lore. The Strike Cruiser Sulu fared worse, as it was destroyed by concentrated Imperial fire from the Calamari Cruiser Sagittarius. Republic Shield forces intercepted and destroyed the transports Pincer I, Pincer II and Pincer III, who were attempting to perform capture operations of the Corinne, Eidolon and Lore, respectively. Continued co-ordinating the offensive against the Imperial forces and launched repair crews aboard the assault transport group Celia. Aided in giving cover and support to the assault transport group Celia as they travelled to and repaired the disabled New Republic ships. Led Republic Shield forces in driving the Imperial forces back, allowing assault transport group Celia to complete rudimentary repairs on the New Republic warships, who then proceeded to withdraw from the combat zone. After the surviving New Republic forces withdrew from the engagement the Calamari Cruiser Sagittarius led Imperial forces from the combat zone, seemingly signifying Republic Shield victory in the region. However a second Imperial attack force led by the Victory Star Destroyer Libra exited hyperspace directly next to the vessel, and launched a strike against the vessel. Directly engaged by the Victory Star Destroyer Libra and the Dreadnaught Cancer. Despite the assistance of Republic Shield forces, the vessel was captured by commandos and a boarding party from the assault transport group Epsilon, who forcefully boarded the vessel via the hangar bay. Severely damaged and captured by Imperial forces. (RgF405)

The vessel was held by Imperial forces led by the Dreadnaught Cancer in a holding zone, while awaiting an Imperial prison ship to arrive and take the captured crew from the vessel. Republic Shield undercover forces led by the captured Escort Carrier Gemini arrived escorting the freighters Triton I and Triton II, which were presented as the anticipated prison ships. However, the freighters were loaded and wired with explosives, and set themselves on collision courses with the two Imperial command ships guarding the vessel. Before the trap was sprung, the transport Servo launched from the Triton II and headed toward the vessel. The freighters then connected with their targets, completely destroying the Frigate Pisces, and heavily damaging the Dreadnaught Cancer. The Servo docked with the vessel, and unleashed a repair crew that first overpowered the Imperial guards holding the crew prisoner, and then set about restoring the vessel to operational status, in preparation for an escape from Imperial captivity. Republic Shield forces led by the Escort Carrier Gemini battled with Imperial forces led by the Dreadnaught Cancer while the repair operations were undertaken. When the vessel’s systems were restored, the tide of the battle was turned, as the Cancer felt itself under the full weight of the vessel’s weapons. The already-damaged Dreadnaught quickly crumbled under the onslaught, ending the main resistance to the vessel’s escape from the area. However, Imperial reinforcements led by the transport group Upsilon bombarded the vessel, in an attempt to deny Republic Shield forces the use of the vessel. The vessel limped out of the combat zone in an attempt to escape, while Republic Shield forces struck back at the Imperial reinforcements. However, the corvette Gutwrench, the real Imperial prison ship, arrived and attempted to salvage some form of Imperial victory, taking command of Imperial forces and co-ordinating attacks on the Escort Carrier Gemini and the escaping vessel. Fortunately Republic Shield forces were able to repel the rallied Imperial attack forces, allowing the vessel to successfully escape from the combat zone, albeit heavily damaged. (RgF407)
