Part of Logistics Office

Tactical Operations or TacOps was a sub-group of the Logistics Office. Put together roughly around October and November of 2006, its role in the Rebel Squadrons was to produce a regular set of ITOD missions for the Patriot Starfighter Group, Vigilance Starfighter Group, and Righteous Indignation Division, as well as the Commando Division for a short period. At the time of its inception, David Vaughan was the team lead.

Support

TacOps generated missions across a total of six game platforms, including:

Also supported by TacOps was Zealot Special Operations, a new writing group led by Cody Qel-Droma in an effort to regain some of what was lost with the Aurora Force.

Activity

All of the missions that TacOps created were to follow an overarching storyline to bring some unity across the majority of the fleets/divisions within the Rebel Squadrons. This storyline was built around the then upcoming multi-player tournament Outer Rim War III.

In addition, supporting all of the missions from a fictional standpoint were a series of narratives which told the story surrounding the missions before and after each one. These narratives were produced under the guidance of the Lead Tactical Officer by a team of individuals.

At the peak perforance of this group, a full set of missions and narratives were produced for release on an almost monthly basis. However, as time wore on, the various builders and writers for the group became worn down and production time slowed, gradually causing release dates to become farther and farther apart.

Downfall

At the completion of the first RS-wide ITOD, a culmination of 12 sets of missons and narratives, totalling in 31 inividual narratives, 58 individual platform missions, and 8 Zealot mission storylines, the team was able to take in a big sigh of relief and a great sense of accomplishment at the production of an entire tour at a scale that had not been done before in the history of the Rebel Squadrons. Through the collective effort of no less than 22 different people, a tour stretching across 5 different units and 7 different mediums had been accompished.

With Tour 1 having been completed, work started on Tour 2. The first pair of mission sets were produced within reasonable lengths of time, however builders and testers had become worn down, narrative writers had lost a lot of their drive, and relations between various influential members of the group had also begun to break down as a direct cause of reduced communication, wear-out, and possibly some differences of opinion. It was at this time that TacOps Co-ordinator David Vaughan decided to immediately step down from his role as team lead, and he even retired from the Rebel Squadrons at large. Two members stepped up to the plate to attempt to continue giving the leadership support for the group, Gavin Starseeker and David Pasiechnyk. However, the group had now been quite shaken by the recent turn of events adding to the already daunting workload and lack of entusiasm.

After the change of leadership, only two more mission sets were to be released. These two sets were wrought with setbacks and delays, and as such there were exhuberant amounts of down time between the final missions. In fact, the four tour two mission sets were released across the timespan of an entire year, compared to the year-and-a-half timespan that the TacOps team used to produce the entire first tour of 12 mission sets.
