Alpha Yridiae is an F0-class, main sequence star with a surface temperature of 7,200˚K. The surface is yellow in color. The star has a record history of a very active magnetic field with numerous sunspots near the star’s equatorial latitudes, some reaching field strengths of 5000 Gauss. Astrophysicists estimate the star’s age to be approximately 3.7 billion years old with a total projected lifetime of 9.6 billion years, after which the star is expected to shed it’s outer layers and become a white dwarf. α-Yridiae is the brightest star in the local group within the Yridia Star Cluster. α-Yridiae is the only star with an extensive, life-sustaining planetary system.
