History
R4-XL, more commonly known by his nickname WarHog is the assigned modified Astromech droid and companion of Mia StormChaser, and serves most notably on StormChaser’s X-Wing, WildCard Two.
Originally supplied to detect possible flaws and weaknesses in the atmospheric containment fields of the hangar bays of the ISD II Sustainer, R4-XL contrary to his original programming began to despise his cruel autocratic masters. Despite the threat of permanent deactivation, R4-XL began to perform his duties below par where possible, until finally was stored as a deficient unit and marked for disposal.
Luckily for R4-XL, shortly before he was deactivated permanently and recycled for his spare parts, the Sustainer was captured by Rebel Squadrons commandos from the Rebel Fist and renamed by it new owners the Redemption. Desperately short of Astromech Units, R4-XL condition was reassessed by Rebel Squadrons technicians and after being reactivated, was assigned to the Vigilance Starfighter Group. During this operational re-assessment, a Rebel Squadrons technician installed additional skill packages onto R4 which included basic starfighter piloting protocols and an enhanced Astrogation capacity not normally associated with an R4 series Astromech.
On learning of his change of ownership, R4 was more than happy to now perform his duties to the best of his abilities, although his rebellious streak is still noticeable at times. R4-XL recently became noteworthy however for his active participation in recently saving the life of Mia StormChaser, single-handedly piloting her crippled ship WildCard Two to safety.
When she recovered, StormChaser in recognition of the droid’s tenacity has nickname R4 ‘WarHog’ and a close bond has formed between the pair.
