A dugong is a cow of the sea, closely related to the manatee. Dugongs eat sea grass and live in the South Pacific, chiefly around Australia. In the RS, dugongs became popular due to the influence of David Vaughan, resident Australian. The gentle sea creatures were mentioned in # RS_Bar_and_Grill on August 7, 2006:

[00:27] <`Kaz> What's that amazingly weird word you people have for manatees again?
[00:27] <Vaughan98> Fair dinkum, mate
[00:27] <Vaughan98> Dugong
[00:27] <`Kaz> Dugong...
[00:27] <`Kaz> That's just wow
[00:27] <`Davery> rofl
[00:27] <`Davery> manatees
[00:27] <Vaughan98> The Aboriginals still hunt and eat them :P
Later that day, Kaz declared August to be "Official RS Dugong Month." The Australian sea cow has since become a fixture in B&G conversations and jokes.
