  • 4 - 1v1 tie [stalemate on the battlefield]
  • 3 - 1v1 loss [defeat on the battlefield]
  • 4 - 2v2 team win (per person) [large victory]
  • 3 - 2v2 team tie (per person) [large tie]
  • 2 - 2v2 team loss (per person) [large defeat]
  • 4,3,2,1 - 2v2 performance, 1st through 4th [damage dealt to enemy]

Rules

  • A person may only play the same opponent configuration three times per week or less.
Example: Person A may play Person B 3 times in a 1v1; AC vs BD may additionally play 3 times, but AE cannot then play BD that week.
  • If a person is in multiple clubs, he or she may only play for one club per week.

A proposal for a new multiplayer competition!

Problems encountered during Celestial Fury:
1) Participation not rewarded: Not enough participation. People waiting
and not getting anything for it.
2) Winning rewarded too much: One person can win the entire competition.
Wins matter tons.
3) Standard 1v1 melees are boring, because they've been around for so
many
years.

Let's fix these.

Outer Rim War III

Events, flying:

- 1v1 combat missions
- 2v2 melees

Points awarded as follows:

6, win
4, tie
3, loss
1, every 15 minutes spent waiting to play someone.

Special points:
1 pt for highest score on team in a 2v2 (so, two people out of four get
this bonus per match)

Combat Missions (The 1v1):
--------
These should be custom missions built by whichever club's members can
help
out. They should last exactly 5 minutes, and be played on both hosts
(keeping the traditional 5/5). These will pit one set of goals against
another.

Combat missions will have a handicap. The handicap is a rating of how
difficult the mission is to accomplish. The handicap will be 0, 1, and
2,
equivalent to easy, medium, and hard. The idea is for a "n00b" to get a
handicap of 0 and therefore have a chance of beating an "expert" who has
a
handicap of 2. This will make it challenging for both sides.

Calculating the handicap: This will be done directly from the person's
overall ORWIII standings for that particular game.
Wins/Total Matches %:
0-33%, handicap 0
34-66%, handicap 1
67-100%, handicap 2
3 or fewer matches played in the tournament, handicap 0 (all new players
will get no handicap).

Each player's handicap will be computed automatically by the bot and the
settings for the combat mission will be calculated and very clearly
stated
to both players, to make sure they get the settings right. How the
handicaps are actually implemented in XvT, i.e. what makes the mission
harder, will be up to the missionbuilders at a later stage.

Melees (The 2v2):
------------
These will be the standard melees found in WoW and other places. As it
has been hard to get four people at once to play MP, the additional
bonus
of 1 pt to two people will be offered. It will be 10 minutes on one
person's host or 5/5, as preferred by the players.

The idea here is to make 1v1s interesting and challenging, and 2v2s
profitable.

A few examples of the points system chosen:
Let's take an example that might have happened in CF: 4 DBers are signed
up for an hour to play RedBaron. RedBaron wins once every 15 minutes,
giving him 24 points. Each DBer is credited with 3 points for the 45
minutes they waited for a game, and 3 points for their loss, giving them
each 6 points, which means the DB has also earned 24 points despite
going
0-4. In this way, participation is rewarded.
Also of note is that 2 losses nets as many points as 1 win. Winning
still
gets your club lots of points, but having lots of people turn up and
lose
will also boost your club. I want participation to be rewarded in a way
that it hasn't before. People will feel productive sitting on the list,
because they are earning points. That will lead to more people on the
lists.

Obviously the ORW3 will be a large collaborative effort on the part of
many clubs, so every part of this proposal is up for discussion. I also
do not know much about JA/JO as I have never played those, so someone
may
have to help me out there if more ideas are needed.
