Academy

I don't think each fleet should have its own academy. One academy, splitted up into classes for each game (with "teachers" from the appropriate fleets) and one class for all CDTs to teach about the RS in general, would do better I guess. The Beginner's Path is good, but as I can talk from my recently experience, mostly new CDTs don't want to read on all the stuff in the first place. Mostly new CDTs want to play MP, and if that isn't possible due to current lack of activity, they want to communicate with other RS beings. So, that's why I propose that there should be a centralized academy with officers on duty (buddies, big brothers, or such), who would be present for the new CDTs. That way new CDTs will be able to communicate with other CDTs (doesn't matter they play different games) and the officer/s on duty (OoD). These OoDs would have to be kind, patient and have time, so they shouldn't have many or any other commanding spots. Also the OoD can "use" the CDTs as a feedback by asking them what they like/dislike on rs.org and the RS in general.

The academy would have more functions. Academy courses would take place there of course. But one thing I would invite would be if the academy could keep track of all MP competitions and activities. Practically, there would be a schedule where each fleet would post up coming events (i.e. XvT WoW 17 - 24 march) and RS members would "sign up" on the schedule for the events, so everybody could see, who's going to participate in which event. This would be good in more ways:

1) new CDTs could see when some action will be and whom to contact if they are interested in participating,
2) veterans, who usually are in more fleets, can easily keep track of the events for their games,
3) HC and others can see the level of activity for each fleet without the need to be in that appropriate fleet.

Also, recruitment officers would be located in the academy, so they could coordinate recruitment and if they manage to recruit someone, the new one would "see" the officer who recruited him/her, because they would "meet" each other in the academy.

Also, to prevent people from signing up for all games at once, there would be a limit (1-3?) at start. As soon as the CDT manages to gradute in RS general class, he/she will be able to sign up for more games.

Also, the academy would have a CO, whos main job would be to check if all "teachers" and OoDs are active and doing their job, to prevent any class from stagnation.

Oh, and I would change the current ranking system a little to reflect the kind of engagment of the members:

-some people want do to only MP gaming, so open the possibility for them to get "combat" rankings. I know the merit system is used to reflect this, but there should be ranks reserved only for combat warriors/ pilots.
-people, who want to do more (commanding, ITOD creation, ...) would sign up and graduate in the appropriate classes. The higher ranks would be available only to those who graduated in the appropriate classes. Also, members could become fleet/squad CO only if they graduaded from the class/es needed.

Also, more would be possible, but I think the above mentioned is enough for starters. DaLe 07:36, 25 March 2006 (EST)
