Liberation Fleet was originally known by the temporary name Internet Fleet. It was one of the first three fleets formed within the Rebel Squadrons, as part of the club reorganization in the Spring of 1996. Before the reorganization, the Rebel Squadrons itself was viewed as a fleet. Liberation Fleet was formed from the original non-AOL based squadrons that were centered around the PC version of X-Wing Flight Simulator.

It was originally commanded by Mykra.
