The Rebel Squadrons rewards activity by its members in a variety of ways. Rank is granted to reward individuals for continued dedication to the Rebel Squadrons through various activities and contributions. As the individual progresses within the club, they are promoted to higher rank, often with more responsibilities. Ranks and promotions are defined by the Rebel Squadrons Bylaws, Section 4.

Levels

There are four levels of rank: Squadron (Level 1), Wing (Level 2), Fleet (Level 3), and Club (Level 4). Squadron Commanding Officers will review officers under their command up through Level 1 promotions. Wing Commanding Officers will review officers under their command up through Level 2 promotions. Fleet Commanding Officers will review officers under their command up through Level 3 promotions. The Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander will review officers under up through Level 4 promotions. The High Command has the authority to make any promotions at any level, including Level 4 promotions of the Fleet Commander.

History

The current ranking system was developed by then Fleet Commander Super in 1996. This system replaced several separate systems in use within the club up to that point. The system is based on U.S. and European army and naval military traditions (current and past), and on the Star Wars fictional universe. Of note, General ranks are lower than Admiral ranks (instead of equal). This is due directly to the apparent relationship between Generals and Admirals in the movie Return of the Jedi.

Over time, the ranking system as been modified and improved. Some ranks are no longer in use. Also, description of ranks and levels have modified to suit the changing nature of the club. However, regardless of the changes, the system has been in continuous use since its 1996 implementation.
