Under the ranking system established by then Fleet Commander Super in late 1996, Sector Admiral was the highest rank obtainable in the Rebel Squadrons. Originally, it was intended to be for leaders who have two or more fleets under their command, therefore Sector Admirals would have Fleet Commanding Leaders reporting the them. At the time, the Rebel Squadrons was in a period of rapid growth, so such a position seemed like the likely next step in the evolution of the Rebel Squadrons and its High Command. However, this rank has not been use since Super's 1997 retirement, although it was very briefly reinstated once. Super was the only person to obtain this rank.
