At one time, Bar Admiral was the second highest rank in the Rebel Squadrons. It was intended to be a position of promotion for Fleet Admirals who had a proven service record and who deserved special honor. Over time, some individual ranks have been removed, Bar Admiral being one of those. This rank has not been used since BA Noble's retirement. He was the only person to obtain this rank, although Super was promoted over this rank to Sector Admiral before his first retirement in late 1997.
